Founded in 2...  moreVIVA!’s six Choirs, for ages four through adult, offer members the opportunity to achieve artistic excellence in a singer-centered, collaborative choral community, featuring youth mentoring programs and the TD Bank Group Inclusion Program. Founded in 2000 by Carol Woodward Ratzlaff in response to widespread cuts to public school arts programs, 2018-19 marks VIVA!’s 19th season as a downtown family of Choirs. VIVA!’s Choirs include: the Preparatory Chorus (ages 4-6); the Junior Choir (ages 6-10); the Main Chorus (ages 9-16); the SATB Chamber Choir (senior high school, university students and adults); and the non-auditioned VIVA! Community Choir (SATB) which incorporates Everyone Can Sing (ECS), an auditioned group for those aged 13 and up with disabilities. VIVA’s unique TD Bank Group Inclusion Program provides support for all singers with disabilities. In this time the Choir has participated in the Madrid Community Choir contest, obtaining the first prize in 2009 and 2010, and the secón prize in 2007 and 2008 Within the Choir activities, we could also mention their participation in theatre productions of the Musicals Persephone and Midas by Steve Pogson, with which they obtained the first prize in the Vademorillo theatre contest. they were also awarded first prize in the Community of Madrid theatre contest, with the Musical Super Jim, a play which was written specially for the Choir by the British authors Steve Pogson and George Simmers. the work of the Choir is not solely centred on the training of new singers and preparing concerts, since its beginning we have firmly believed that a junior Choir should be innovative, and, year after year the Choir has sought after original works by Spanish auth...    less

the Barnes Choir, originally known as the Barnes Music Club Choir, was established in 1953/4. A friendly and sociable Choir, we number some70 singers drawn mostly from the Barnes, Sheen and Richmond areas. We perform mainly, but not exclusively, classic...  morethe Barnes Choir, originally known as the Barnes Music Club Choir, was established in 1953/4. A friendly and sociable Choir, we number some70 singers drawn mostly from the Barnes, Sheen and Richmond areas. We perform mainly, but not exclusively, classical choral works, including those of local composers such as Howard Goodall and Gustav Holst, and we occasionally commission new works, most recently from Russell Hepplewhite. We perform three concerts each season at local venues and we also sing at local charitable events at Christmas, and at summer fêtes, and we raise funds for local cancer support charity the Mulberry Centre at our Christmas Carol concert. We offer an open Come and Sing day each season and arrange overseas singing tours, our most recent being a trip to Lisbon last autumn.  less
