Stella's repertoire embraces a diverse array of languages such as Arabic, Norwegian, Spanish, English, Zulu, French, Isixhosa, Filipino, Chinese, Hungarian, and beyond. The choir's mission is to craft a vibrant and inclusive musical journey steeped in multiculturalism.  

We are an active French community choir that presents 4 to 6 concerts per year. Our trademark is singing all concerts by memory, which means that with a changing repertoire, our members have to be willing to work hard. Our trademark is singing all concerts by memory, which means that with a changing repertoire, our members have to be willing to work hard. We sing widely around our own region in France but are looking to exchange with a choir further afield in the near future.

The choir s...  moreThe choir of Notre-Dame de Bon Voyage has about 35 members and is the choir of the parish of Cannes, on the French Riviera. It was founded in 1898 by Albert Frommer, organist, and is now conducted by Stephan Nicolay, chapel master, since 1999. The choir sings each sunday and on special occasion in the different churches of Cannes. It also sings 4 to 6 concerts a year, sometimes with an orchestra. His repertory covers all the sacred music from gregorian chant to 21st century. Among the last masterworks done in concert with an orchestra are Requiem (Saint-Saens), Stabat Mater (Haydn), Vesperae Solennes de Confessore (Mozart), Gallia (Gounod), etc. New members are welcome.  less

"How heavy lies the heart" has drawn inspiration from the traditional F...  moreI dedicate this piece to my friends in the composer/singer collective, the Ad Hoc Chorale, who tested out this piece in one of our informal workshops and offered valuable comments. "How heavy lies the heart" has drawn inspiration from the traditional French Christmas carol, "Quelle est cette odeur agréable", which John Gay also set as a boisterous drinking song in the Beggar's Opera, "Fill every glass, for wine inspires us!" In addition, the song draws inspiration from Josquin's Missa Pange Lingua. In early 2018, I applied to be a participant at one of the Vancouver Chamber choir's Interplay workshops funded by the SOCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted. "How heavy lies the heart" was one of the pieces that this amazing choir sight read for me on the spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and choir members then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful.
