Live recording of our historically informed performance at the abbey of Münsterschwarzach on october 2nd, 2011.
Antiphon:
Favus distillans labia tua sponsa
et odor vestimentorum tuorum sicut odor thuris.
Chorus:
Lauda, Jerusalem, Dominum,
lauda Deum tuum, Sion.
Quoniam confortavit
seras portarum tuarum:
benedixit filiis tuis in te.
Qui posuit fines tuos pacem
et adipe frumenti satiat te.
Qui emittet eloquium suum terrae:
Velociter currit sermo eius.
Qui dat nivem sicut lanam,
nebulam sicut cinerem spargit.
Mittit crystallum suam sicut buccellas.
Ante faciem frigoris eius quis sustinebit?
Emittet verbum suum
et liquefaciet ea,
flabit spiritus eius
et fluent aquae.
Qui annuntiat verbum suum Jacob,
iustitias et iudicia sua Israel.
Non fecit taliter omni nationi,
et iudicia sua non manifestavit eis.

ABOUT the PIECE:
Composer Vijay Singh writes: “the Lord's Prayer was inspired by Oliver Messian's choral masterpiece "O Sacrum Convivium", with its use of dense harmony, existentialism, hypnotic transcendental tonal treatment, and grateful piety.” the composer decided to use the universal "Lord's Prayer" text and various musical ideas to communicate the power and hope of this prayer. the piece builds to climax at "For Thine is the Power and Glory forever!" and ends reflectively, savoring the "Amen".
the COMPOSER:
Composer Vijay Singh is Professor in the music department at Central Washington University. This video is from a concert presented on the CWU Campus.in May, 2014 entitled: “the CWU Choirs and Friends sing songs of Singh” In that concert, 28 of Singh’s pieces were performed by 6 choirs, including two invited guest high school choirs.
