The choir's founder and artistic director is Maestro Zakar Keshishian. The choir’s pianist is Mrs. Kamila Keshishian. The choir has a multilingual playlist which extends from Armenian traditional folk songs to modern Armenian or non-Armenian songs. These songs are performed in different ways: - A capella - Accompanied by the piano - Accompanied by the Armenian folk traditional band - Accompanied by a modern contemporary band. Many Armenian musicians from Armenia enrich the choir's repertoire with their unique and creative works. The choir members are composed of university students and secondary classes students in Armenian High Schools, as well as young Armenians in the work force. The 21 Classically trained outstanding vocalists of The Nathaniel Dett Chorale have shared the stage with internationally recognized artists such as Juno Award-winning jazz pianist Joe Sealy, Singers Molly Johnson and Jackie Richardson, and opera star Kathleen Battle and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble has performed for such luminaries as opera singer Jessye Norman and Dance Theatre of Harlem founder Arthur Mitchell. The Chorale has performed at events honouring world leaders Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu, personality Muhammad Ali, and pianist Oscar Peterson and was the only Canadian ensemble invited to perform as part of the celebrations surrounding the historic inauguration of President Barack Obama in January of 2009.  less

This work is suitable for a soloist or unison choir. The accompaniment is originally scored for piano, but we have rendered it with organ accompaniment. In a liturgical setting, this work is especially suitable for Baptisms and other services that feature the use of sanctified water (healing and commemorative services). Equally, it would make a reflective motet for use during the distribution of Holy Communion.
