Our latest performance was back up for Barry Manilow! Our choir was founded in March, 2010 by founding director Matt Deller contact us at http://www.soundsofthesouthwestsingers.com/home We have performed on the stages of New York’s Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. We have sung our way through Germany and Austria and on two separate occasions at Disneyland and California Adventures. We had the honor of performing at Pearl Harbor and aboard the USS Missouri in Hawaii. Our choir also participated in a combined concert with Southwestern College in Chula Vista, CA and last fall we were chosen to be a part of a larger ensemble to sing in Rome, Italy, performing at the Vatican. Himig Batingaw was founded in March of 1979 by group of graduating students of Imus Institute to sing for that year's baccalaureate mass. In the first few years of the choir's existence, they conducted rehearsals at the church belfry; hence the name Himig (melody) and Batingaw (peal of bells) was born. The choir is very influential in the rise and development of choral music in the parish and having introduced new pieces for liturgical use most of which are composed or arranged for the group and having graduated noted local musicians from its ranks. The choir began to tread new ground under the directorship of Mr. Edward Gerodias in the late 1980's then on to Mr. Rey Roland Bergado in the late 1990's, both sought after pianists. This period witnessed a string of successful concerts, and a Grand Prize at the first Paskuhan sa Imus Choral Competition. From its first steps it attracted attention to the musical community and it also achieved a significant success. Since 2000, the choir led by honored artist of Belarus Natalia Mihailova. Sacred music and jazz, Classical and modern music organically and naturally coexist in the repertoire of the choir. The creative possibilities of the collective, consisting of 30 professional musicians, are inexhaustible. They constantly work on new programs of Russian works (D. Bortniansky, P. Tchaikovsky, S. Rachmaninov, G.Sviridov) and Western classics (I.S.Bach, G.Gendel, D.Bukstehude, W.A. Mozart). Then they prepared premieres of works by contemporary Belarusian composers as S.Kortes, V.Kopytko, A. The oratorio was...  moreThis setting of the 98th Psalm (Sing a new song to the Lord for he has worked wonders.) comes originally from my cantata “The Manchester Magnificat”, based on Audrey Vaughan’s poems about the religious and social history of the city. The oratorio was first performed in Manchester Cathedral in 1994. This psalm forms the climax of the whole cantata and provides an expression of optimism after the tragedies of the previous sections. In this “extracted” version, the tragic surroundings of the history remain in the background and the purebubbling joy of the psalm itself shines forth. Enjoy the complex rhythms and let your hair down! This performance by Daniel Shaw's Composer's Choir (based in Connecticut) is a brilliant rendition of the piece and will, I hope, encourage other church choirs and concert choirs to consider including it in their repertoire.  less
