St Stephen’s has a strong musical tradition with ...  moreIn the ancient village of Hackington, now a suburb approximately a mile north-east of the centre of Canterbury, St Stephen’s Church is home to one of the leading Church choirs in the Canterbury Diocese. St Stephen’s has a strong musical tradition with two choral services each Sunday throughout the year (except August when the choir has a well deserved break – but usually sing elsewhere for a number of days). Music is sung from across the centuries, ranging from plainsong dating back hundreds of years right through to contemporary works by composers such as John Tavener and Arvo Pärt, including works written especially for us.  less

The Choir is made up of 3 different choirs, English service choir, Yoruba service Choir and Teenager Church choir. we are about 120 in number.

Our repertoire is diverse, and we are open to all Church members and also to anyone who is friendly to the Church. No special requirements. We are stretching ourselves to be better music readers and vocal technicians, and also to be able to learn music by ear, memorize simpler songs quickly, and be free in our bodies while singing.  

A well established choir, St Philomenas Choir rehearse each Monday night and have a broad spectrum of Church music in their repetoire. Its mission is to enrich, inspire, motivate and engage the children, not only of the Church, but the entire Barracks community in sacred songs among other value oriented musical works which have positive, uplifting and inspirational messages. It's the group's vision to inspire a life-long love for good music and Church leadership in the young singers through the pursuit and enjoyment of musical and other artistic excellence. Children from ages 6 to 18 residing in Accra with consent from guardians are given the opportunity to join through auditioning. Its membership currently stands at 65. The choir sings during communion and lead congregational singing during Sunday School anniversary.
