the New Jersey Chamber Singers (NJCS) is the premier vocal Chamber ensemble of the Jersey Shore. It was founded in 1978 by Dr. Jeffrey Unger for the sole purpose of providing quality performances of choral Music written for the small ensemble. In the 32 years of its existence, NJCS has presented concerts throughout New Jersey and beyond. NJCS was chosen to represent New Jersey at the American Choral Directors Association Eastern Division convention in Baltimore in 1984 and again in Philadelphia in 1988. In June 1991, by invitation of the Bishop of Washington, D.C., NJCS performed at the National Cathedral. In December 1998, NJCS was the guest of the Orpheus Club of Philadelphia and performed in their annual Christmas concert at the Academy of Music. In 1999, NJCS performed at Alice Tully Hall in New York City.

This is thanks to the work of Knut Nystedt (b.... moreThroughout its existence the Chamber Choir Schola Cantorum has had high ambitions. the Choir has built an international reputation and has made it a trademark to include newly written Music in its programmes. This is thanks to the work of Knut Nystedt (b. 1915), organist, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after studying in the USA and started a Choir at the Music department of the University of Oslo. the Choir continues to recruit members from the department of Music, as well as from the Norwegian Academy of Music in more recent years.
the American choral tradition in which Nystedt was trained emphasises the importance of new Music – a practice Nystedt brought back with him to Oslo. Knut Nystedt’s Music became a vital element of Schola Cantorum’s repertoire.
Tone Bianca Sparre Dahl became conductor in 2002, and has further established the Choir’s firm position in Norway’s Musical life. She has continued Nystedt’s tradition of performing modern Music. Schola Cantorum has a varied repert... less
