From its very beginning in October 16, 1956 and until now, it is made up exclusively of male students and graduates of National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (former Moscow Engineering Physics Institute). The choir’s directors have traditionally been exclusively women — talented choirmasters who represented The classical Russian choral school. The repertoire of The MEPhI Male Choir includes practically all genres of choral music: Russian and Western classics and spiritual music, opera Choruses, works by modern composers, Russian folksongs, and some popular songs of The Soviet era.  less

The choir performs frequently both in Pontypridd and overseas, and has visited Poland, Ireland, The USA and Germany. Links have been forged with Liederkranz Oberensingen, a German male choir from Pontypridd's twin town, Nürtingen. The choir also performs regularly at The National Eisteddfod of Wales and takes part in The HTV male choral competition. The choir is currently broadening and improving its repertoire to provide a wide-ranging concert program. The choir is a member of The National Association of Choirs, The Welsh Association of Male Choirs and The Welsh Amateur Music Federation, and is a past winner of The HTV Male Choral Competition and at The National Eisteddfod of Wales.  less

The...  moreAnne Frank: A Living Voice was commissioned by The San Francisco Girls Chorus (SFGC) in celebration of its Silver Anniversary. The text is based upon excerpts from The Diary of Anne Frank, taken from The 1952 and 1991 English translations of The book. The full musical work was premiered in 2004 by The San Francisco Girls Chorus. Anne Frank was between The ages of 13 and 15 when she wrote her Diary, while living in a secret upstairs annex over a warehouse in Amsterdam with her family, The Van Pels family and Fritz Pfeffer. Despite The fears and frustrations she experienced in over two years of hiding from The Nazis, Anne learned how to survive, even to find beauty in small things and to hold on to her ideals. Composer Linda Tutas Haugen writes: "My goals for this composition are to honor The life of Anne Frank and to gain a deeper understanding of what she, her family, and friends experienced during The Holocaust."
