Our members are mainly from a...  moreThe Mayo Male Voice Choir has been in existence for twelve years, it has grown in strength this year from 26 to 42 members, and now has a wide and varied repertory featuring many favorites from light Opera to popular musical. Our members are mainly from around The Castlebar area, but with five from Ballinrobe, more from Swinford, Kilkelly and Ballyglass we now truly represent our county. Under The musical direction Of Deirdre Lee, from Kiltimagh, Deirdre has been our musical director since The choir’s inception, an honors music graduate Of University College Maynooth, having studied under PrOfessor Gerard Gillen. She has been involved in many musicals and events as musical director, arranged and conducted. Deirdre is a teacher Of music, choir and orchestra in St. Joseph’s Secondary School, Castlebar. She has arranged many Of The pieces we perform in four part for male voice. which were previously not available to us.  less

This was The first group to become active at Academia Concerto in 2005 and during this time has made significant projects such as The participation in The Opera "Il Capulletti ed Il Montecchi" by Bellini, with first complete performance in Brazil in São Pedro Theatre - São Paulo, sang The American Musical "Video Games Live" with composer Jack Wall, made a joint presentation with The American choir "BYU Singers", performed Vivaldi’s "Beatus Vir" RV 579 for two choirs and orchestra with Madrigal Mackenzie. In 2011 was Guest Choir at International Choir Festival MUNDUS CANTAT in Poland and held a series Of 13 concerts in various cities including The capital, Warsaw. His initial claim was also to promote new soloists and serve as a tool for new and established composers specially from The Rias Baixas area. The choir already has more than sixty performances, both self-managed and scheduled in various cycles or festivals such as Outono Lírico, Vigo Sinfónico, Barcia de Mera Religious Music Series, Nas Ondas, Portico Sonoro, Explurart, Cooltural Cambados and II Festival Groba.
