There has been a long tradition of musical excellence at St Laurence’s. The original church, built in the 1880s, had a strong choir of men and boys who took part in the Festival of Britain services in 1951.
When the new church was opened in 1968, the musical tradition continued. A new Walker organ was installed in the church, using Some pipework from the old organ and Directors of Music have included David Sanger, ProfesSor Roger Wibberley, Paul Dewhurst, Tom Fowkes, Marcus Wibberley, Iain Simcock and Andrew IbbotSon. The current Director of Music is Huw Morgan.
Girls were first admitted to the choir Some ten years ago, but the choir remains unique in this part of South-east London in that it continues to use only trebles (girls and boys) on the top line. The lower parts are provided by volunteer adults from the local community. Young people receive an excellent musical education, and ... less

O holy night! The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth
long lay the world in sin and error pining
'Til He appeared and the Soul felt its worth
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn
Fall on your knees; O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born
O night, O holy night, O night divine!

Satie/Rain: "As dawn breaks,” #1 (Summer) Ottawa Four SeaSons Suite (sung by Matthew Curtis)

Creating a choral adaptation of a piano piece has its challenges. I tried to keep faithful to Satie's original musical inspiration and created lyrics to go with my arrangement that evoke an early summer morning, one of my favourite times of the year.
Several months later, I applied to be a participant at one of the Vancouver Chamber Choir's Interplay workshops funded by the SoCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted.
"As dawn breaks" was one of the pieces that this amazing choir sight read for me on the spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and choir members then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful.
NB: One day I woke up to the realization that I had independently written four choral works, each of which had evoked a different seaSon, and So it seemed natural to group ... less

New technologies, abSolutely new repertoire. You're welcome!
We waited for a long time when we would meet again at the halls of the Gdańsk University of Technology and sing together. Although maintaining the required distance and security measures, we managed to meet for a few rehearsals, which we decided to end with a concert :)

So we invite you to an online concert, which we broadcast live from the Aula of the Main Building of the Gdańsk University of Technology straight to your homes! Additionally, to make it even easier to feel at the concert, the broadcast is 360°!

Cold may lie the day,
And bare of grace;
At night I slip away
To the Singing Place.
A border of mist and doubt
Before the gate,
And the Dancing Stars grow still
As hushed I wait.
Then faint and far away
I catch the beat
In broken rhythm and rhyme
Of joyous feet,—
Lifting waves of Sound
That will rise and swell
(If the prying eyes of thought
Break not the spell),
Rise and swell and retreat
And fall and flee,
As over the edge of sleep
They beckon me.
And I wait as the seaweed waits
For the lifting tide;
To ask would be to awake,—
To be denied.
I cloud my eyes in the mist
