How To Schedule Your Concerts
It was a very interesting discussion onChoralNet. There was a choir concerned that they had a concert and only 17 People turned up. They asked for some input on how to do things differently so that they didn't have that happen again. There were some ...

Qui me consolera
dans la nuit noire,
la nuit plus noire
que les hommes
Non pas celle où l’on entre
pour mieux sentir le monde,
non pas celle qui contraint
à l’infini
par sa clarté soudaine
Non pas encore la nuit
de nos murmures roses,
et que j’entends
ton regard qui m’excède
et la respiration de l’enfant
(car il revient,
analogie des anges)
Qui me consolera
sans toi, sans lui
qui nous aime

Who will console me
in the dark night,
the night
darker than men
Not the one where we enter
to feel better the world,
not the one that constrains
to infinity
by its sudden clarity
Not yet night
of our pink whispers,
and that I hear
your look that exceeds me
and the breath of the child
(for he returns,
analogy of angels)
Who will console me
without you, without him
who loves us

The music was devised to Short call order for a Mothers' Union Deanery Service in what was then Leeds Parish Church on Lady Day - the Feast of the Annunciation - in March 1979. Its accompaniment owes much to the setting of Robert Herrick's 'Litany to the Holy Spirit' by Peter Hurford of some twenty years earlier. 'Ave Maria' has been extensively recorded and broadcast by choirs of all traditions, especially children's choirs. Eventually, a version of the piece for four-part choir emerged during the early weeks of 2003 in response to a request from Gordon Stewart on behalf of the BBC Radio 4 Pilgrim Choir and it is this more recent version that is sung here.
This performance was recorded in Leeds Minster on Sunday 28th April 2013 during the recital of 'Music with Minster connections' sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds, directed by the composer. The organist is David Houl... less

This Short, lively SATB piece is loads of fun and highlights the quintessential elements of the Acadian folksong tradition: podorythmie (seated foot-tapping), diddlage (mouth music), and the spoons. But, it also stretches the tradition to include more modern elements. Don’t be fooled by thinking this is just a simple folksong. It is a challenging and complex piece that reflects the innate musicality of this long-standing Canadian oral tradition.
Though this folksong can be found in other parts of French Canada, I chose to feature the Acadian dialect in this rendition because it is emblematic of the role that language sometime plays in creating social inequity.
Story synopsis: For those unfamiliar with the language, this video helps tell the song’s funny story of a young woman, Marie Madeleine, who has a rather difficult relationship w... less
