During the fall semester, Voices embarked on rehearsing and preparing 4 selections to be audio recorded and produced with video. For this piece, “Space In Between Us,” it occurred to me that as the community chorus of Chapel Hill, it seemed appropriate to feature images of familiar spaces/places in and around Chapel Hill. Among the many figures carved on medieval cathedrals, one may find examples of foliate heads—a figure in which leafy foliage sprouts and elaborately ornaments a frieze, façade, or column. This figure is known as "The Green Man" and was mainly a northern European and Celtic symbol of the regeneration of life, a symbol of May, and the return of spring.
