A CAPPELLA ENSEMBLE is an amateur vocal group that was born in February, 2015, with the goal to present itself at concerts, with choral works a cappella. However it does not exempt the work of works accompanied by instrumental ensemble, piano, etc.
This group's training base is four singers, two of them music professionals, malleable according to the repertoire, joining more singers if so required.
Being a recent ensemble, it premiered in the March 2015 concert with the Lenten Concert (Solidarity Concert in favor of Maria Lara) in the Chapel of Covão do Coelho and the Church of Minde, with works by T.L de Victoria, A. Caldara, A. Scarlatti, J.S. Bach, G. Orbán, etc.
Since its foundation the a cappella ensemble is directed and conducted by António Lourenço Menezes.

The opening passage is: “Border, sanctuary, asylum, bridges not walls.” The text draws from (and paraphrases) several sources: contemporary media, Emma Lazarus’ “The New Colossus,” the Bible’s Matthew 25:31-40, currency, and others. The changing meters of “Border” fill the work with an uptempo, rhythmic energy that propels it forward. “Border” is a call for justice, empathy and compassion, a summons to our collective conscience. It is appropriate for ensembles at the community, collegiate, and advanced high school levels. “timely… It is a call for humanity.” - Susan Glass, Glass Menagerie Chorus, NY a “powerful statement” - Dr. Heather Mitchell less
