Historical sources confirm the existence in the 15th century of a vocal ensemble composed of students and teachers of the Cathedral School. Uninterruptedly since 1939, The Poznań Nightingales Choir has worked and given concerts under the baton of Prof. Stefan Stuligrosz for 73 years. Prof. Stefan Stuligrosz died on 15 of June, 2012. In the World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became the 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got the 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning ...  moreIn the World Choir Championships which was held in Graz, Austria between 10th-17th July 2011, Boğaziçi Jazz Choir became the 'WORLD CHAMPION' in Contemporary Music and Folklore categories, and got the 'second prize' in Mixed Choirs category. Also winning 2 more gold medals in 'Grand Prix of Choral Music' the champions competed in, the Choir has come back to Turkey with a total of 5 gold medals. This particular setting was composed with a small Mixed-ability Choir in mind, so the voices are mainly in two parts (men's and women's voices), splitting to four parts (SATB) occasionally, where the words suggest it. The musical style is reminiscent of the 19th century although the piano part does go into 20th century style syncopation at times.
