Life is a Circle was written for the Salt Lake Vocal Artists and had its official world premiere at the symposium. Life is a Circle By Black Elk ~ Oglala Sioux ~1863-1950 Everything the power of the world does, is done in a circle. The sky is round and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind in its' greatest power whirls. Birds make their nests in circles; for their's is the same religion as ours. The sun comes forth and goes down again in a circle. The moon does the same and both are round. Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing and always come back to where they were. The life of a man is a circle, from childhood to childhood. and so it is with everything where power moves.  less

Words so old, they are new. Two words so sweet the moon floating beyond the trees' branches pauses to fill my mouth. Words so melodious, when an ant inches up my neck, I make no move to brush it off. A pair of words so sweet that despite myself I say "How lovely life is." Calming, gentle, they are like scented oils poured over my body. The Children's chorus echoes the barking of the dog whilst the adult Choir takes us through the story. Then the children -- one by one tell us the story behind the poem itself. The Sierra Boys Choir is the new revival of the Sierra Boys Choir in the 1970s, which was active in the Reno/Sparks/Carson City area and directed by Stan Burke. When Mr. Burke joined the Mario Singers and left to move to Long Beach, CA, the Choir was disbanded and a hole was left in the local arts and culture scene. The revival of the Choir is a project (and passion) of Nathan Lundholm. Our goal is to provide musical and artistic opportunities to the boys while teaching them to be generous and thankful members of the local and global community. Our aim is to be fun and entertaining on many levels, from practices to shows, even to social events on the town. Our name reflects our roots in the telephony and technology sectors as we originally formed as a workplace Choir in BT’s Edinburgh offices. We’ve since grown and attracted members from outside of our workplace. Led by Aly Skidmore, our vision from the outset was to build a dynamic performance Choir for amateur singers. Under Aly’s musical direction, the Choir has developed rapidly and grown significantly in both quality and reputation, receiving wide acclaim. The RingTones have been booked for a wide mix of charity, showcase and corporate events such as the Scottish Rugby Union’s Annual Awards 2015, Eden Festival 2015, the BT Scotland Annual General Meeting, the Scottish Parliament, Sports Relief, the Great Scot Awards 2014.
