Written and composed in 1985 for The Shin-yu Kai Chorus, The song captures The moment when one finds oneself straddling both uncertainty and optimism while thinking about The future. Takemitsu’s signature sound, featuring rich harmonies colouring melodious refrains, shines through in this conversational and thoughtful piece. Video recreated in honour of The composer Per me si va ne la città dolente, per me si va ne l'etterno dolore, Through me is The way to The sorrowful city, Through me is The way to eternal sorrow, per me si va tra la perduta gente. Through me is The way among The lost people. Giustizia mosse il mio alto fattore: fecemi la divina potestate, la somma sapienza e 'l primo amore; Justice moved my exalted maker Divine power, supreme wisdom and The first love made me dinanzi a me non fuor cose create se non etterne, e io etterno duro. Before me were no created beings Only things eternal and I continue for ever Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch' intrate. Abandon all hope you who enter here.  less
