Their initial vision was to be a Turkish CHOIR which is capable of making world class polyphonic music in Turkey and performing on interNATIONAL stages around the world. The CHOIR performed onstage for the first time on 12th August 2017, in the city of Batumi in Georgia. This concert was organized under the auspices of the Turkish consulate general in Batumi, in the concert hall of the Zakaria Paliashvili Music School. A selection of modern polyphonic songs from various cultures were performed and the performance received great praise from the audience. Then the CHOIR respectively appeared in front of audiences in Ankara, Kastamonu and Adana, followeed by their participation in Turkey CHOIRs Festival in June. Then in August, Anchorus participated in the competition episode of the “Orhid CHOIR Festival” which was held in the town of Orhid in Macedonia. In October 2012, the CHOIR was awarded the prestigious title of CHOIR of the Year 2012, after an extensive UK-wide search and a competitive Grand Final held at London's Royal Festival Hall. The ensemble was established in 2007 by present musical director Andrew Nunn and performs regularly across Scotland and beyond, having given concerts in renowned venues such as Glasgow Cathedral, the SECC, Dunkeld Cathedral, Paisley Abbey, the Mackintosh Church, the Queen's Hall, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall and London’s Cadogan Hall. The CHOIR has also performed in more obscure locations, having “sung on the subway” as part of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) promotion of the Glasgow underground. This performance was the closing song for the inaugural Choral Exchange between the Girl CHOIR and the Singing Sons.
