Prof. Elisabeth Ziegler, conductor of the “Gumpoldskirchner Spatzen”, was entrusted to be the artistic director of the new women’s choir. She was tempted by the possibility to go beyond the limits given by the repertoire of a children’s choir and to discover new choral literature with the now adult singers. From the very first moment of the foundation of “Cantilena” until today, Elisabeth Ziegler guides and supports the plans of the enthusiastic young women by sharing her extensive musical expertise. Singers in this ensemble demonstrate a high level of commitment to choral singing and to sharing this art with audiences at home and around the world. the Chamber Choir forms the core of Cantilon’s touring and recording program and participates in many exciting and unique activities throughout the year. the Chamber Choir performs locally in concert at least four times per season, and competes in music festivals at local, provincial and national levels. the Chamber Choir generally follows a three-year touring cycle: a regional tour in year one, national tour in year two, and an international tour every third year. In addition to its regular concert series, the Chamber Choir is often invited to perform with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, Pro Coro Canada, Edmonton Opera and the Richard Eaton Singers.  less
