This International Women’s Day, we celebrate what it is to come together as a group of women, and sing.
‘Here in my Heart’ by Sarah Quartel is a favourite piece for many singers in the choir: it speaks about the beauty of nature and the joy of making music. We last performed this piece in October 2020 at a concert that took place between two national lockdowns, when it felt especially poignant. We hope you enjoy it.

The forty boys of the choir are educated at Westminster Under School, part of London’s historic Westminster School, established before 1179 as a monastic School of the Benedictine Abbey of St Peter. In 1560 the School was re-founded by Queen Elizabeth I for boys to be “liberally instructed in good books to the greater honour of the state.” Ever since, the School’s history has been intertwined with the momentous state events and political turmoils of the capital. Old Westminsters dominated Parliament for most of the eighteenth century and the output of leading politicians, statesmen and soldiers has continued to this day. The School’s contribution to literature, philosophy and the arts has been immense, from such alumni as Ben Jonson, John Dryden, Henry Purcell and Christopher Wren to A.A. Milne, Adrian Boult, John Gielgud and Peter Ustinov, from Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Stephen Poliakoff to Julian Anderson, Ian Bostridge, Helena B... less

Tomislav Veršić in the School year 1992/93 by merging two School Ensembles founded a year earlier: Girls’ Choir, and traditional Dalmatian male vocal group (so-called “klapa”) “Šufit”. At the end of the following School year, the choir participated for the first time at the Croatian Youth Music Festival, choral competition which is traditionally held in Varaždin, thereby winning the Silver Plaque. In 1996 the performance of the choir at the same event was rewarded with Gold Plaque. After this success, the choir received new, more experienced members, and began to act as the Mixed Choir of Cultural and Artistic Association “Aspalathos”. Although new Ensemble soon became well recognized and multiply awarded, it ceased to be a part of the School and thus of this historical review as well.
The choir continued its work under the name of “Marko Marulić” High School in the School year 2004/05. Since 2006 until now, the Choir has performe... less
