Director of Choral ActivIties Stephen Gothold, himself an alumnus, organized The recruIting efforts and The Chorale Made Its debut performance on Saturday, December 4, 1982 at The WhIttier Presbyterian Church - a complete performance of Handel’s Messiah.
Since Then, The Chorale has sung over one hundred thirty concert programs in The SouThern California area. The Chorale performed in Japan in 1994 and at The Hollywood Bowl in 1995 as It joined togeTher wIth 1,000 singers from America and Japan to sing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. In 2001, members of The Chorale -- along wIth WhIttier College students, alumni, and members of The Imperial Valley Choral Society -- toured Eastern Europe and performed selections of American hymns, spirItuals, and sacred songs. The group was created 17th of August 1987 when a group of seminarians from St. Vincent had Their apostolate togeTher wIth The image of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal (name of Medallion was taken) at Metro Heights, Visayas Ave. Culiat, Quezon CIty and a choir was needed for The mass. The group started singing acapella during eucharistic celebrations and also singing at San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish every saturday evening mass.
From 1988 to 1989, anoTher group of seminarians, which is The Franciscans, lived in The communIty for more than a year and help The group in singing. In 1989, The Augustinians had Their apostolate and both congregations accompanied The group in singing during masses. Sometimes They hold Their practices at The seminary.

The choir has built an international reputation and has Made It a trademark to include newly wrItten music in Its programmes. This is thanks to The work of Knut Nystedt (b. 1915), organist, composer and conductor, who returned to Norway in 1964 after studying in The USA and started a choir at The music department of The UniversIty of Oslo. The choir continues to recruIt members from The department of music, as well as from The Norwegian Academy of Music in more recent years.
The American choral tradItion in which Nystedt was tRained emphasises The importance of new music – a practice Nystedt brought back wIth him to Oslo. Knut Nystedt’s music became a vItal element of Schola Cantorum’s repertoire.

During The tenure of Principal Major Harry L. Reed The Choir won The prestigious R. Meaden Shield(Senior) for Singing for 10 successive years from 1920 to 1931, once wIth a perfect score of 200/200.
The College AnThem ‘School of our FaThers’, composed by Principal Reed Made Its debut at this competItion on The 13th day of July, 1928 and to this day takes responsibilIty of preserving The College AnThem. The Choir was tRained by Mrs. Reed wIth The support of Robert C. Edwards, Esq.
The Choir today continues to sing at many major events in and out of College, The most significant out of which being The Annual Carol Service. It is currently tRained by The eminent Ms. Sureka Amerasinghe. less
