Founded in 1989 by Mr. Albert Morland to provide an opportunity for ex-members of The Wonderboom High School Choir to continue singing togeTher after matriculating, it has since evolved to include members from a broader community that come from various backgrounds and professions (including law, accounting, nursing, teaching and IT) and are between 18 and 65 years of age.
The Choir has toured and performed across South Africa during The past 30 years and has an established reputation as a warm, friendly and “no-fuss” group with good Choral sound who are just as comfortable performing at nursing homes and oTher charitable events as They are performing alongside The best Choirs in The world on International stages, for instance, at The 10th World Choir Games in 2018, where They took home a silver medal (79.5%) in The champion’s category for mixed adult Choirs.

The ensemble specialises in The restoration and performance of neglected Choral masterpieces of The 16th and 17th centuries. Magnificat ranges in size from four to forty voices and performs a wide range of music, both a capella and with ensembles of period instruments.

The Choir has a varied programme throughout The year including charity Concerts, festivals, workshops, Come and Sing events, CD recordings and a hugely popular Carol Concert.

Creating a Choral adaptation of a piano piece ha... moreErik Satie's Sarabande No. 1 is one of my favourite piano pieces. For a long time, I felt There was an a cappella Choral piece hiding within it, in plain sight. One day I got inspired and gave it a try.
Creating a Choral adaptation of a piano piece has its challenges. I tried to keep faithful to Satie's original musical inspiration and created lyrics to go with my arrangement that evoke an early summer morning, one of my favourite times of The year.
Several months later, I applied to be a participant at one of The Vancouver Chamber Choir's Interplay workshops funded by The SOCAN Foundation and to my delight I was accepted.
"As dawn breaks" was one of The pieces that this amazing Choir sight read for me on The spot. VCC director Jon Washburn and Choir members Then provided me with valuable feedback, for which I am very grateful.
