Founded in 1989 by Mr. Albert Morland to provide an opportunity for ex-members of the Wonderboom High School Choir to continue singing together after matriculating, it has since evolved to include members from a broader community that come from various backgrounds and professions (including law, accounting, nursing, teaching and IT) and are between 18 and 65 years of age. The Choir has toured and performed across South Africa during the past 30 years and has an established reputation as a warm, friendly and “no-fuss” group with good choral sound who are just as comfortable performing at nursing homes and other charitable events as they are performing alongside the best Choirs in the world on International stages, for instance, at the 10th World Choir Games in 2018, where they took home a silver medal (79.5%) in the champion’s category for mixed adult Choirs. Most of ex-semble's members come from the Süwestpfälzer Kinderchor. Starting in the children's Choir with voice training and also personal formation, ex-semble works mainly with a-cappella literature of all epoches. During this time they have developed a reputation for their commitment to the highest level of musicality. Comprising some of the finest young singers in the country, members of the Choir are all alumni of the Eton Choral Courses. Conducted by their founder Ralph Allwood, the sound of the Choir is a reflection of their profound sensitivity to text, blend and phrasing. They use imaginative programming, and have become known for their innovative and exciting performances and their extensive array of recordings. The most recent addition to this catalogue will be released in November 2013, and features works by Paul Mealor and Benjamin Britten.
