The Winelands Chamber Choir is a fledgling chamber choir based in the Western Cape Winelands District of South Africa, formed in 2010 out of our passion for choral music, ranging from classical to contemporary.

Spera means hope in Latin, and it is a members’ shared vision on music. All members studied a sacred choral music under Koji Oguchi, choir director, when they were high school students. They were deeply touched by Oguchi’s music and established the Ensemble Choir SPERA. Making its debut in concert in March 2014 at Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall, SPERA’s music was highly prized and well-reviewed in Newspapers. It serves in Masses and services and performs in concerts as an ecumenical choir, composed of students from Kitasato University, International Christian University, Hitotsubashi University and Rikkyo University. Alongside classical music sung in Latin, Italian and French, its repertoire highlights the music of Jewish liturgical and folk traditions in a variety of styles and arrangements as well as music from around the world. Songs in Hebrew, Yemenite, Yiddish , Ladino, English and Arabic bring to life the different backgrounds of the Ensemble's members.
