The Aim of the choir is to appeal to everyone! You’ll have the opportunity to sing some great songs, perform in public, find and improve your voice and spend a couple of hours each week getting that feel-good factor. Switch off from the stresses of life for a couple of hours. Firm and lasting friendships are formed. Following the move in 1983 into the West End of Glasgow the choir was renamed Glasgow Lyric Choir. ​ Under its present conductor, Julian Evans, the Choir sings a wide repertoire of Choral music from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods and traditional Scots and Gaelic songs. We are a mixed voice choir numbering around 30 at present. ​ We gave two concerts in Glasgow during the 2017-2018 season: in December we presented a Christmas programme and in June we gave a concert featuring a selection of music from the movies. However, in April we also gave two concerts in Italy, the first in Barga (including a Vivaldi Credo and Scottish songs) and the second in Milan where we joined forces with Canti Corum to sing Dvorak’s Mass in D. ​ Choir members enjoy many social as well as musical events together. Their mission is to entertain, educate, unite and uplift their audiences and members through music that is distinguished for its innovation, diversity and artistic excellence. Their philanthropic mission is to provide funding and support for music education in our schools and the community. On September 10 of this year, Nashville Singers awarded their first Music Makes a Difference music education grant to John Overton High School. The singers are all volunteers, range in age from teenagers to retirees and travel from five different counties throughout Middle Tennessee to be a part of the chorus. It has 170 singing members in soprano, alto, tenor and bass sections. Presenting classical Choral music of a professional standard in Yorkshire and elsewhere in Britain, including at the BBC Proms and Manchester Arena, the Chorus is broadcast regularly on BBC Radio 3. The Leeds Festival Chorus was first formed in 1858 (the year Queen Victoria opened the Leeds Town Hall) to sing at the first Leeds Musical Festival, and was reformed for each succeeding one. The Chorus became independent in 1985. It celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2008 with a performance of a specially-commissioned work by Judith Bingham - a world premiere.
