In 1985 the Choir became an Oakham House society open to Ryerson students, faculty and staff. In 1987 membership was opened to the general public. The Choir is currently made up of Ryerson undergraduates and alumni, current and retired faculty members and people from all ages and walks of life in the community. It ranges in size from 60-80 members. A core of long term members makes it possible to maintain high standards and perform a demanding repertoire. Under Matthew's direction, the Choir has performed over 50 concerts and on several occasions performed at Ryerson graduation ceremonies. In 1986 the Choir competed in three categories at the Kiwanis Festival, winning first place in two categories and receiving high marks in all three. Named after Lady Margaret Beaufort who founded St John’s College, Cambridge, the Choir cultivated a powerful and expressive sound combined with a clear, committed delivery of text. The membership comprises singers from across the UK embarking upon the early stages of their careers. Amongst its seminal projects were performances of James MacMillan’s Seven Last Words From The Cross and Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil. It is also hugely passionate about investing in the future of choral music and has regularly commissioned new works from young composers such as Piers Kennedy (April & Nunc Dimittis) and Owain Park (For The Fallen). In 2018, The Beaufort Singers and Joseph Wicks founded the Boxgrove Choral Festival which gave the Choir its new home. After its enforced cancellation last year, 2021 saw the Festival’s return and its presentation online for the first time.  less

The Seagrave Singers are an award winning all-female Choir. It is our aim to bring enjoyment to others and ourselves by delivering a high quality performance. We present our own concerts bi-annually and organise concerts to assist with fundraising.
