Text Translation:
He will proclaim freedom for all his children / and will keep you as the apple of his eye
Pleasant is your name and will not be destroyed / repose and rest on the Sabbath day
Seek my sanctuary and my home / give me a sign of deliverance
Plant a vine in my vineyard / look to my people, hear their laments
Tread the wine-press in Bozrah / and in Babylon that city of might
Crush my enemies in anger and fury / on the day when I cry, hear my voice

Owing much to the polyphonic work of the Renaissance, the motet is a deeply-felt work written during Wesley's period of recuperation from a fall whilst out fishing in the North Yorkshire countryside at Helmsley. The chromatic clashes at the words "the bones which Thou hast broken" are almost certainly reflective of the pain the composer had suffered, for his leg was badly broken and he walked ever after with a noticeable limp.
This performance was recorded in Leeds Minster on Sunday 28th April 2013 during the recital of 'Music with Minster connections' sung by St Peter's Singers of Leeds, directed by Dr Simon Lindley.
Leeds Minster, formerly Leeds Parish Church, has a long and distinguished musical history. The list of organists and past organists of the Parish Church of St Peter-at-Leeds is outstanding. 'Music with Minster connections' celebrated both this heritage and the status of Leed... less

Psalm 51, Verse 7 [Antiphon at the Sprinkling of Holy Water]
Thou shalt purge me, O Lord, with hyssop and I shall be clean:Thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be: world without end. Amen
Book of Common Prayer, Psalm 51, Verse
The rite of sprinkling the faithful with holy water at the start of the Medieval mass in every Sunday of the Church’s Year except for Palm Sunday and in Eastertide involved the use of verse seven from the famous Miserere text, the 51st Psalm. Palestrina’s four part setting involves the sustained motto theme of the traditional plainchant melody within the... less

The aim of the Horizons Project is not simply to stimulate the creation of new South African choral music; but to stimulate the creation of a new generation of South African choral composers. There are 2 projects a year, each one focusing on a different genre of choral compositions.
The Choir consists of 24 hand-picked Singers. By inviting specific ‘head-hunted’ Singers to join the choir and not just having open public auditions, allows us to hold an extremely high level of musicianship, technical ability and an exclusivity that makes our sound unique. The choir is conducted and directed by Pieter Bezuidenhout
