Championing the work of young and established composers, they remain consummate entertainers; a class-act with a delightfully British wit. From Gesualdo and György Ligeti to Michael Bublé, The King’s Singers are instantly recognisable for their spot-on intonation, impeccable vocal blend, the flawless articulation of the text and incisive timing. During the 2012 concert season, The King’s Singers will perform across the globe in some of the world’s most beautiful concert halls including the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall, and the Berlin Philharmonie. The King’s Singers will travel to Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, the US and Canada, Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Poland, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Finland. With a discography of well over 150 recordings The King’s Singers have garnered bo...    less

Our purpose is “to sing, in harmony, a variety of music for the enjoyment of the members as well as to give public and private performances for the listening pleasure of others”. During our musical season (September – June), the choir practices on Monday evenings from 7 – 9:30 PM at Broadmoor Baptist Church in Richmond. In addition to our weekly practices we usually plan one or two workshops with a choral clinician, as well as evenings with guest directors. We have two major performances per year, a Family Christmas Concert in December and a Spring Concert in May. We are very involved with our community and, by giving benefit concerts, help to raise funds for other organizations such as the Richmond Hospice Society, Canadian Cancer Foundation and Tim Horton’s Kids Camps. As a group member of the Richmond Community Arts Council, the Richmond Singers has established a legacy that attests to a vested interest in the arts in Richmond...    less

Celestin Translation: Three drums Are having an argument A great Sunday morning On their way back from Guinea A little Kata . . . A little Tanbouren . . . A big Boula . . . Boula declared That he can hit the loudest Boula declared "I can hit the loudest!" Tanbouren said "I have the most beautiful sound" He said "when I perform, keep quiet and listen!" Kata who was hearing all this became angry He could not comprehend how two soldiers Who are dressed with the same outfit And are children of the same mother Are sitting around making a scandal One fine Mardi-Gras day, Kata started to "zouk" Every single person there began to dance . . . Tanbouren and Boula who were there listening To make the party more exciting, they started a great thro...    less

These Singers also perform as soloists. The group would like to promote their vast repertoire of singing ‘a cappella’ (without instruments) pieces from 16th to 21st century and their different styles. As well as being accompanied by orchestral ensembles, the choir often work with notable composers (Lucian Tuguy, Thibault Maillé, Jean-Christophe Marti…) who help to create the musical pieces. Ranging from traditional concerts to original and artistic experiences, the choir is always seeking to give value to all of the creative initiatives. In 2006, the choir collaborated with dancers from the Paris Opera House for the ballet of Stéphane Elizabé, “De l'Autre côté à l'amphithéâtre Bastille” (From the other side of the Bastille Amphitheatre). The choir often perform in concerts and festivals in France and abroad (Les sept chapelles en Arts de Guidel, Les V...    less

The song is arranged with modern vocal effect and technique to express the atmosphere and environment of the poem. The poem describes a girl who has long been waiting for her lover to come back from far away. The clatter of horse hoofs has given her hope. However, it is just a passer-by, not her lover.
