The one hundred avid choral singers, all non-music majors, come together into this vigorous and passionate auditioned musical group. With all their bright talents, immense potential, remarkable adaptability, diligence and love towards choral music, the singers delight in performing works from a wide range of choral repertoire, including canonic Western choral literatures, American folklore, spirituals and gospel, music, Chinese art songs, Taiwanese folksongs, operatic choral numbers, musical medleys, and commissioned works by Taiwan's own emerging talented composers. Highlights of recent seasons include highlights from the 80′s rock musical ‘Chess,’ ’Messiah’, by G.F. Handel, Gloria, by Vivaldi, the Durufle Requiem, the Pope Marcellus Mass by Palestrina, Magnificat by J.S. Bach and Morten Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna. During the summer, Cantate presents the Pacific Summer Music Festival which hosts guest musicians such as the nation’s most beloved choral conductor, Dr. Weston Noble, concert pianists, Itay Goren and Frank Pavese and the Grammy-nominated string ensemble, Quartet San Francisco. M'ANAM is one of the most exciting new Vocal ensembles to emerge in recent years, growing naturally from the ground-breaking choral group ANÚNA. Formed in 2017, the members come from the island of Ireland and beyond, encompassing a huge range of musical e...  moreM'ANAM is one of the most exciting new Vocal ensembles to emerge in recent years, growing naturally from the ground-breaking choral group ANÚNA. Formed in 2017, the members come from the island of Ireland and beyond, encompassing a huge range of musical experiences. The musical connection of the group to Ireland is deep and spans all the traditions present here. The songs and texts date back as far as the Viking raids on Ireland in the 9th century, through to music created by the men themselves under the direction of their Artistic Director Michael McGlynn. This year the group release their debut album, "M'ANAM" in the Autumn, and are featured artists on the opening track "Clarity" of the latest album by acclaimed Japanese Jazz-rock ensemble Mouse on the Keys whose 3rd album "tres" was released this May to universal acclaim. Their first digital single "Bandó Ribineann" is released this June.  less
