Strong sight-reading skills and musicianship are important to membership. This ensemble is directed by Dr. Jonathan Babcock, associate director of choral activities. The group is made up of twenty-somethings (mostly!) who are young professionals living in London. Founded by Singers and beatboxers from The likes of The International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella, last Choir Standing and Britain's Got Talent favourites Out of The Blue, The group’s repertoire spans from Billy Joel to The Black Eyed Peas, via pop, jazz, barbershop, rap and original composition as They offer a programme of sumptuous jazz arrangements, genre jumping covers and assorted originals. Following a successful run at The Edinburgh Fringe, The Refrains enjoyed a sold-out London debut at The Forge, Camden. Recent gigs have included The London A Cappella Festival, Edinburgh International Book Festival, Silver Bullet and private events. Membership is open to anyone with or without choral experience. We aim for high standards, and of course strong Singers are always valued – but you don’t have to be able to read music, and There are no auditions. The age range of members stem from 20 to over 70 so There is room for everyone. If you’re not sure which voice part you are Then Christopher Wray, our Musical Director, can help you with this. The Choir performs three public concerts each year, at Easter, in The Summer and at Christmas. We also support The local communities by singing at various events and this includes raising funds for charities. Each year we also sing away from London which combines singing to anoTher community, or combining a performance with Their choir, with a fun day out.
