Paralia is a touristic seaside village situated on the west coast of the Thermaic Gulf and in the shadow of Olympus.
The Festival has two parts: competitive and non-competitive. However, the character and the main concept of both parts is joining Music, vacation, friendship and fun. The idea of the Festival is to bring the Music closer to the people and to present the Music on the streets and the squares of Paralia, Olympic Beach and Katerini. All choir ensembles, regardless of the members’ gender and age can apply for participation at the Festival.

From the beginning our intention was to establish a dialog between ancient vocal Music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods and contemporary Music from the 20th and 21st centuries. As the vocal requirements of this aim are very important, we pay special attention to the Musical and technical preparation of our programmes, in order to provide high quality performances.
Our repertory includes ancient and contemporary Music and works from composers such as Claudio Monteverdi, William Byrd, Heinrich Schütz, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Thomas Tallis, Vicente Goicoechea, Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc, Vytautas Miskinis, Zoltán Kodaly, Samuel Barber, Benjamin Britten, Astor Piazzolla and Marcos Leite.
In Hora Sexta has regularly taken part in the Musical series of concerts organized by Madrid town council and other Spanish institutions since 2003. We have been on tour in Canarias, Barcelona, Valencia, Toledo or La Granja de San Ildefonso. We have also taken par... less

Ola Gjeilo’s Dark and Luminous Night portrays the passage of the soul from mortality to its union
with God. Based on the 16th century poem by a major figure of the Counter-Reformation, St. John
of the Cross, the piece depicts a soul leaving its “still house” and venturing into the night. Seemingly fearless, the soul is guided out of the darkness by the light of love; Luminous Night reveals the soul’s fulfillment.
Lyrics: St. John of the Cross
One dark night,
fired with love’s urgent longings
– ah, the sheer grace! –
I went out unseen,
my house being now all stilled.
In darkness, and secure,
by the secret l... less

Spera means hope in Latin, and it is a members’ shared vision on Music. All members studied a sacred choral Music under Koji Oguchi, choir director, when they were high school students. They were deeply touched by Oguchi’s Music and established the Ensemble Choir SPERA. Making its debut in concert in March 2014 at Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall, SPERA’s Music was highly prized and well-reviewed in newspapers. It serves in Masses and services and performs in concerts as an ecumenical choir, composed of students from Kitasato University, International Christian University, Hitotsubashi University and Rikkyo University.
