With the addition of Richard Larson as artistic director and a handful of additional singers, the group quickly found a footing in the cultural fabric of Denver, Colorado.
Now entering its 15th full season of performing, the group has expanded into an auditioned ensemble of 54 volunteer singers who meet weekly to rehearse. Many of the singers come from schools with strong choral music programs, such as Augustana, Brigham Young, Concordia, Luther, St. Olaf, Wartburg, and the University of Northern Colorado.
Kantorei established itself as one of the nation’s premier choral ensembles after performing as an auditioned Choir for the 2003 National American Choral Directors Association Conference at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Known for its’ varying repertoire, ranging from adaptations of classical music, jazz standards, folk and rock arrangements to dancehall and hip hop songs, the ensemble is lead by Choir director and music teacher Mrs. Susanne Faatz. “JazzVocals” was founded twenty years ago and is one of Berlin’s veteran jazz/pop aCappella ensembles.

In May, the Choir travelled to Italy to take part in the “Venezia in Musica” International Choral Competition. They won first prize in the secular music category, came runners up in the sacred music category, and received the “Outstanding Performance” prize for Bogorditsye Dyevo by Rachmaninov.
They have been awarded “Choir of the Day” at all five BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year regional rounds they have entered, and in 2008 reached the adult category finals in the Royal Philharmonic Hall in Liverpool, alongside the six other best adult Choirs in the country.

Gospel Choir is based in Essex, but occasionally strays beyond! Celebrating our tenth anniversary in 2013, the Choir was formed in 2003 after director Jen and accompanist Jane were missing taking part in music, having left University. Starting well, with about 15 members the Choir has fluctuated in size, settling early on into a Choir of 8. In 2010 however, the Choir doubled in size and we are pleased that this core of almost 20 people has stuck!
Choir members range from 7 years old to 77! We are a sociable bunch with an emphasis on singing for fun. We don’t put people through an audition and being able to read music isn’t necessary. A good third of the Choir don't read music. Being able to sing in tune is an advantage though!
We have performed at weddings and parties across Essex and Suffolk, for the Women's Institute, local churches, at fetes, town open nights and charity concerts at the Mercury, Headgate and Towngate theatres. We don't pay our singers for performing - we do it for the love! ... less
