This smallest and most select of the Hofstra choirs comprises the best singers at the University, both within and outside the Department of Music, and focuses on the distinct art of unaccompanied, or a cappella, ensemble singing, presented in carefully chosen performance spaces that are uniquely attuned to celebrate the human voice's potential.
From an educational standpoint, the ensemble serves two main functions for the University. First, it acts as a laboratory for Hofstra’s future music educators, both undergraduate and graduate, providing outlets for the exploration of the art of ensemble preparation through the study of the highest-quality choral literature. Second, it provides all qualified students with the experience of singing in a professional-level ensemble (as well as the associated "real-world" responsibilities of the same), which is dedicated to the highest standards of public performance through numerous on- and off-campus concerts, engagements and tours.
The choir has been heard in concerts throughout the Northeast, in such remarkable locations as Carnegie Hall, the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan, the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City, NY, and Christ Church, Oyster Bay, NY, among many others. In addition, the choir continues its mission to host high school choral workshops and masterclasses, reveling in the two-way exchange of new ideas and artistic inspiration that underlies the critical mission of the group. less
