The Rías Baixas Choir was presented in Vigo in January 2014 with the purpose of replacing the lack of choral formations that could collaborate with orchestras and chamber groups in Galicia (NW Spain). His initial claim was also to promote new soloists and serve as a tool for new and established composers specially from the Rias Baixas area.
The choir already has more than sixty performances, both self-managed and scheduled in various cycles or festivals such as Outono Lírico, Vigo Sinfónico, Barcia de Mera Religious Music Series, Nas Ondas, Portico Sonoro, Explurart, Cooltural Cambados and II Festival Groba.
In these performances they have interpreted several fundamental works of the choral repertoire in all kind of stages of the four Galician provinces, both a capella and with instrumental accompaniment. Samples of these are Petite Messe Solennelle by G. Rossini (version for two pianos), the Requiem in C minor by L. Cherubini, Music for the funeral of Queen Mary by H. Purcell, Mass in D major by A. Dvorák, the Coronation Mass by W.A. Mozart, the Requiem in D minor by G. Fauré, the Requiem by W.A. Mozart or Gloria, by A. Vivaldi. In addition, he participated in a collaborative Messiah (G.F. Haendel), in the recording of the documentary Current of the Gulf with the pianist Alberto Conde, and acted in the operas Rigoletto and Macbeth, by G. Verdi. He has published works like Van Comigo and the version for string orchestra of Anxos de Compostela, - cantata by Rogelio Groba -, the choral composition inspired in the seven Cantigas de Amigo by Martín Códax, composed by Brais González, and Duns folios que foran brancos, by Miguel Matamoro, in collaboration with other choirs of Galicia.
Within the classical a capella repertoire, the choir has performed works by composers that cover all periods of the history of music, such as Cristóbal de Morales, Tomás Luis de Victoria, Wiliam Byrd, Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn, Charles Villiers Stanford and G. Forbes, among others. Also included in his repertoire are works by Galician composers, such as Joam Trilho (Ingemisco, Eucharistic), Julio Domínguez (Ave María), D.G. Artés (Hallelujah) or Francisco Rey Rivero (Dúas cantigas de enamorada).
The choir has worked throughout these years with instrumental groups such as the Chamber Orchestra of Galicia, the Rías Baixas Chamber Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Galcicia, the Vigo 430 Symphony Orchestra and the Real Filharmonía of Galicia, as well as the Ensemble Vigo 430, Baroque Orchestra Vigo 430 and metal groups Tuvara Brass and Brass CCRB. In addition to acting regularly under the orders of its principal conductor, Bruno Diaz, the choir has also performed under the direction of teachers Paul Goodwin, Rogelio Groba, Vicent Alberola, Diego Garcia, Maximino Zumalave or Lina Tur Bonet. The band has been collaborating regularly with pianists such as Alejo Amoedo and Brais González and has accompanied soloists such as Luis Cansino, Olena Sloia, Fabián Lara, Pablo Carballido and Beatriz Riobó. less
