The choir delights in introducing new songs that are connected by their unique choral sound, rather than from a particular genre and it is this wide appeal and their sense of fun that has meant the group is in constant demand and continually attracts new members.
Even in its early days the choir never quite conformed to the accepted norms of what should be included in their repertoire. However, this in no way hindered its appeal and it went on to win a number and prestigious competitions including one of the largest Eisteddfods for male choirs in Wales, an award for services to the arts from Chelmsford City Council and passed the advanced choral singing examination of The Associated Board of the Royal College of Music
Successive musical directors contributed the choir`s development, but it was in 2003 when John Trent Wallace accepted the post that the most significant changes started to take place. His skill as an arranger opened up an even wider repertoire and with the use of full orchestral arrangements bringing yet a further dimension to each performance, the choir continues to be as relevant to day as when it started in 1979.
More and more choirs are now seeking his advice and requesting copies of his vocal and orchestral arrangements as they recognise, like men2sing, that it`s not possible to survive solely on traditional songs.
The group now has over 60 members, including many of who have never sung with a choir before. Under John’s careful direction they enjoy the thrill of singing good music in a fun and supportive group. They rehearse locally, in South Woodham Ferrers, just outside Chelmsford. So if you think you would like to sing with them, just have a chat with one of the members and come along to one of their rehearsals.
