For many years it was led by famous Bulgarian conductor – Petja Pavlovitch. She is known in Bulgaria and abroad for her outstanding talent and professional skills.
Mixed choir "Petko Stainov" became one of the leading ensembles not only in Bulgaria. It is prizewinner of many international competitions: Aretzo,Italy - 1980 - 1th Prize; Varna, Bulgaria - 1985 - 3th prize; Ihlava, Czech - 1987 - 3th prize; Preveza, Greece - 2000 - 2nd prize and silver award; Musica Sacra - Praque,Czech - 2001 - The golden award. Choir festival – Ankara, 2003 – award for successful synchronize conductor – choir. International Choir Competition “A.Vivaldi” – Karpenissi, Greece – 2009,1st prize.
The choir consists of about 40 members that non of them is professional singer.
The repertoire of the ensemble is of great variety of styles and times - from old orthodox (15-16 centery) and folk songs, trough: renaissance, romantic, sacra, classical compositions, negro spirituals, opera choirs,cantata - oratorio works to modern Bulgarian and foreign music. Bulgarian Composers Union often offers "P.Stainov" choir to perform for the first time new works of modern composers.
The choir has performed successfully in Czech, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Austria, Turkey and Russia.
2006 choirs participates in project “250 years Mozart”, perform Requiem – Mozart with different orchestras in Bulgaria; October 2006 – concerts in Italy, organized by Concentus Musicus Fabraternus “Josquin Des Pres” – Ceccano. 2008/9 the choir performs Messe G dur from Franz Schubert, 2010 – Requiem by Gabriel Faure.
Mixed choir "Petko Stainov" often sings together with famous Bulgarian orchestras and opera singers.The choir makes records for Bulgarian National Radio and for Bulgarian Televisions.
From 2003 conductor of the choir is Mr. Mladen Stanev. less
