The choir was founded in 2005 by several of St. Therese’s young parishioners, and currently has 53 singers from 27 different parishes in Archdiocese of Jakarta and 3 parishes in Archdiocese of Bogor. As the number of singers grows, Cappella Victoria Jakarta evolves to focus on singing Sacred Polyphony music from the end of the 16th century, especially Roman Polyphony music and its various modern interpretations.
Since 2006, Cappella Victoria Jakarta routinely sings Sacred Polyphony music in Eucharistic Mass in St. Therese of Lisieux Parish. The choir has also sung Sacred Polyphony music in several other Catholic churches in Jakarta, Tangerang, Bandung and Semarang. Through Sacred Polyphony music, Cappella Victoria Jakarta aspires to contribute in the creation of a sacred and solemn ambience in Eucharistic Mass, in the hope that this ambience will facilitate the faithful to feel closer to the presence of the Lord.
To present Roman Catholic church’s sacred liturgical music to the faithful, Cappella Victoria Jakarta has also routinely held Sacred Polyphony Music concerts since 2008, with various themes such as: Sacred Music in Honor of the Eucharist, Sacred Music during the Year of the Eucharist, Sacred Music for the Holy Week and Easter, Sacred Music in Honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Sacred Music for the Solemnity of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, Sacred Music for the Feast of All Saints and the Commemoration of All Souls, Sacred Music in the Spirit of Roman Polyphony, and Sacred Music Written for the Sistine Chapel.
Currently in its 9th year, Cappella Victoria Jakarta continually expands their Sacred Polyphony music repertoire, which currently stands at 150 songs and growing, and currently covers music for all Feast Days, Solemnities and Memorials in Roman Catholic Church Liturgical Calendar. The majority of these music were composed by composers who are regarded as the definitive role model for Roman Catholic Church Liturgical Music composition, namely: Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina and Tomás Luis de Victoria from the Renaissance (16th century) era and Cardinal Domenico Bartolucci from the modern (20th century) era.
By having “Keep up the spirit” motto (adapted from “estote fortes et pugnate”), Cappella Victoria Jakarta continually empowers each singer to actively contribute in the life of the church in their own community, especially through music and choir. less
