The choir Collegium Cantorum is energy and professionalism and intensive, systematic artistic work, which enables continuous improvement of skills and preparing a comprehensive and highly diversified repertoire. The singers of the choir easily cope with different styles of music like classical music, opera music, a musical or popular music, as well as in contemporary compositions. The team appears on stage in full ensemble cast, in smaller ensembles and with singers performing solo, all presenting their vocal artistry. As a result, each concert of the choir Collegium Cantorum is a unique event and a true celebration of choral music. The choir was awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Order of Honour "Distinguished for Polish culture."
The beginnings of the choir date back to 1987 when Janusz Siadlak established his first choir. The choir director’s experience gained over the years, and his great desire to create the highest quality performances led to the professionalization of the activities of the choir. As a 24-person, professional mixed choir the Collegium Cantorum has been operating since 2012, being one of the artistic ensembles of the Częstochowa Philharmonic.
The Collegium Cantorum Choir has toured almost all over Poland, in most European countries, as well as in Argentina, Uruguay, China and the USA (twice) everywhere collecting excellent reviews and meeting with an enthusiastic reception of the audience.
The choir has made many first performances of works by Polish composers – including Andrzej Koszewski, Wojciech Łukaszewski, Juliusz Łuciuk, Roman Maciejewski, Edward Bogusławski, Marian Borkowski, Marek Jasiński, Stanisław Moryto. The choir is appreciated for its impeccable technique and exceptional sensitivity to music in even the most demanding, rarely appearing on stages, works of composers such as Arvo Pärt, Ernst Pepping and Hugo Distler. Repeatedly invited by Zbigniew Preisner to collaborate on various projects related to film music and television productions. During the tour of the choir in Argentina, the conductor received the score of Misa por la Paz y la Justicia from its composer Ariel Ramirez. Thanks to this the premiere of this beautiful Mass could take place in Poland.
In addition to a cappella programs the choir performs (either alone or in an enlarged ensemble cast) oratorios and cantatas. It has worked, among others, with: the Częstochowa Philharmonic Orchestra, the Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra, NFM - Leopoldinum, the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra (USA), Capella Cracoviensis and the Accademia Dell Arcadia orchestra.
An important part of the activities of the Collegium Cantorum are the authorial events organized within the activities of the Częstochowa Philharmonic - these include themed music shows such as Hot Africa and The Beatles Symphonically, extremely popular and appreciated among the public, and celebrate successes series of thematic concerts: „Thursday evenings with the Collegium Cantorum” presenting the richness and diversity of vocal music (from the very latest music, through the classical and opera music to popular music and musical jokes). The Collegium Cantorum is also the organizer of the Festival of Music of the Bach Family.
Quotes:
“They are in full control of the material and technique. They just sing beautifully. “
Prof. Maciej Negrey
“The singers of the choir Collegium Cantorum can obtain choral homogeneous and pure harmony together, and at the same time they can show up as racial soloists - individually - and in a variety of genres and styles of music. And this is unique and worthy of the highest recognition.”
Dr hab. Małgorzata Janicka-Słysz
“I have been observing Janusz Siadlak and his choir for several years, as they are consistently climbing up in all rankings of choral singing”.
Romuald Twardowski
„ [Musicians] Thanks to the work with Janusz Siadlak they gained a new personality which is sensitive to art and thus to other people. “
Paweł Łukaszewski less
