Capital Connection is a female barbershop chorus based in Harrow, West London. We've been singing together since 1975 — 50 years of weekly rehearsals, Christmas shows, community singouts and annual competition at the LABBS National Chorus Finals. We have also taken part in local charity events, and competitions including Bournemouth Music Festival and the International Eisteddfod. Our current membership is around 35 singers, and we are proud of the warm, committed community we've built.
We're looking for a Musical Director to lead that community into its next chapter. Our current Director – Debi Cox, is moving for personal reasons to a different part of the country after over 20 years as our MD. She is committed to supporting our search for the right candidate and to enable a smooth transition.
This is a contracted Musical Director position, starting from June 2027 (or earlier by agreement). You'll lead our weekly rehearsals every Wednesday evening in Harrow, direct the chorus at Convention, Christmas shows and community singouts, and work with our established Music and Performance Teams to develop our repertoire and stage presence.
You'll have real support around you: Assistant MD(s), Section Leaders, a Music Team and Performance Team, plus periodic guest coaches. You report to the Management Committee and are part of the Performance Management Sub-Committee.
We're not looking for someone who will walk in and tear everything up. Capital Connection has a strong culture — friendly, hard-working, and serious about singing — and we want an MD who will respect that while helping us grow. Experience directing a chorus or ensemble is preferred, but barbershop experience isn't essential. What matters more is that you're a skilled musician who genuinely enjoys working with amateur singers and can bring out the best in a group.
We compete at LABBS Convention each year and have placed consistently in the top 10. We'd love to do better. But we also do community singouts, an annual Christmas show and the occasional charity event — and we care about all of it.

This is a contracted position. Fees are negotiable and will be agreed with the right candidate. Travel to Convention and retreat, accommodation and Convention registration fees are covered. The successful candidate will be required to hold a current DBS certificate in line with our safeguarding policy.
