Vacancy Type: Conductor/Musical Director/Choirmaster
Description of vacancy:
Cunninghame Choir wishes to appoint a new Musical Director (MD) following the departure of Robin Versteeg, who held the position for 9 years.
Cunninghame Choir is a very friendly and enthusiastic mixed-voice choir based in Beith in North Ayrshire, Scotland. Established in 1978, this non-audition amateur choir has around 35 members and has enjoyed performing a variety of works from traditional to contemporary, sacred and secular, folk, blues and gospel as well works by the choral masters.
The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings, 7.30-9.30pm, at Beith Community Centre from early September until May and performs 2 concerts per year (generally 12 weeks rehearsing for Nov/Dec concert and 18 weeks rehearsing for the annual May concert, which usually involves more challenging and demanding works for choir, soloist/s and instrumental/orchestral accompaniment).
An enthusiastic, dedicated and imaginative conductor is sought to motivate, develop and inspire the choir through this next phase of its choral journey. A high level of musical ability and commitment to plan a schedule of music are pre-requisites along with a wide knowledge of choral repertoire. The MD will be required to work closely with our accompanist, Maciej Granat, and also liaise, collaborate with and appoint musicians and soloists for individual concerts.
Remuneration is negotiable but will comprise a set fee per rehearsal (30+) and a set fee per concert (2), which will cover repertoire research/development, musician/soloist appointments, preparation of programme notes, on-the-day rehearsal (with accompanists) and each concert performance.
Interviews will take place on Wednesday 24th or / and 31st August and will involve a small interview panel meeting followed by a short warm-up and rehearsal session with the full choir.
The successful candidate will, ideally, take up the Musical Director role on Wednesday 7th September 2016.
