Singing in a choir can develop children’s listening and cooperative skills, give them confidence and show them how music expresses feelings and ideas. It can also be a lot of fun. Upper Hutt’s Major Minors Children’s Choir meets again on Sunday, February 2, and the two volunteer tutors are inviting more children to join them.
Parents are welcome to bring their child to experience a rehearsal and see what sort of things the choir works on. There are no auditions.
Current members are aged between 4 and 12 years. The children don’t need to be able to read music and there are some opportunities for solo singing.
The all-comers choir, formed in 2012 by musical director Joanne Roelofs and pianist Karen Boyce, perform a variety of different music at events and hold concerts during the year.
The choir meets on Sundays at 3pm at The Spot, corner of Fergusson Drive and Milton St, Upper Hutt, for an hour.
